ALS 1852 August 25 : Haworth, to Ellen Nussey.

English novelist Charlotte Bronte writes a notable and well known letter, quoted in several books, to her lifelong friend. This letter contains discouraged commentary stemming from her romantic disappointments, household ilnesses, and other difficulties. "Not that I am a single woman and likely to remain..but because I am a lonely woman and likely to be lonely."
